Yuck, that doesn't look like Samantha. In other news, I was commissioned to re-create a wedding gift of a print of the "Oh Father" prayer that the Spaniards gave to the Aztec when they invaded. I was asked to make an Aztec-pattern boarder around it.

First, here's a painting I did for my boi Chaz. It's pretty big (way bigger then I usually do anything, like 16" x 20" I think)and it lead me to make this COMIC for Melissa Mendes's Freddy.

This next one is a small painting for a lady that eats at the restaurant I work at.

She wanted something a little more 'classic' looking so I redid it all browny.

My old AZ friend Casey visited me and Samantha this past week:

It was AWESOME hangin out for a week. We pretty much drank coffee and drew all day then drank beers and played video games all night, it was the best. We drew so much that Casey finished his first mini-comic and we put it together on his last day here! They came out great and they're only a buck!

I'm in two Awesome Anthologies that are coming out soon/are already out! First is AFTERSHOCK, a really nice looking, perfect bound book that was compiled to benefit the disaster in Japan. There are a lot of awesome artists in the book, including Noah Van Sciver, AZ's own JON GARZA, and even Jeffery Brown! what! You can BUY IT HERE, and know that you're helping a good cause. Even before the book came out, they raised over $500! that's rad. Also, my story is the first one! nice!The second is Suspect Device, Josh Bayer's book that mashes up Nancy and Garfield strips! the first one was really funny and I'm pumped to be in the second one. So the Cowtown Comix Fest was this weekend, and it ended up being kind of a bummer. Not that it wasn't fun, there was just no attendees. No offense to the awesome local shop KILGORE who put it on, it was just a bad location, and there were some weird time/schedule problems. The Denver Post came and made a video, I'm in it for a sec at the end:And not to talk mess about Denver cartoonists (Robert Elrod's comics are rad!), but it's kinda lame they didn't talk to Dan or Luke, the Kilgore guys, or local heroes Noah, Lonnie or Leila. I mean, come ONNNN, that's kinda what cowtown is all about about! To shine a spotlight on mini comics! Not sketch cards! DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING?!?!? No. No they dont.

2 IMPORTANT THINGS!

1. Remember when I said I was going to donate all my T-shirt profits to charity? Welp, I finally did! I donated $500 to CARE. Samantha helped me choose the right charity, and we went with them because they give the most percentage of donations to the actual charity, not for fundraising, advertising and salaries and stuff. So a big thanks to everyone that ordered a t-shirt!!! I don't think I've actually made $500 on them yet, but I still have 3 smalls, 6 mediums and 5 larges left, so by the time I sell those I will! So hey, if you still want one... BUY ONE! Thanks again!

2. COWTOWN COMIX FEST is tomorrow! It's at the Auraria Campus downtown in the Tivoli building from 2pm to 9pm. Last year was a blast, and it's free, so if you live in Denver you should totally come and support some local cartoonists! YEAH!

Here's a new mini-comic I made for 24 hour comics day this year!

Well, I couldn't finish it all on 24 hour comics day (I only completed 15 pages), so I just finished it up last week. SO, it's 24 pages total, black and white and printed on cream paper, with that gold paper insert and a color cover! 24 hour comics day is super fun, but sheesh, it's brutal. I didn't finish this year, which is a bummer. Last years book starring SNOOD, was a much easier to draw book (those characters are like 4 lines each... haha). I challenged myself this year to draw an auto bio comic about my grandma. I've never drawn a long auto-bio story, so I thought it might be neat, but it's just me talkin on the phone with my grandma, so maybe it's boring? I penciled all 24 pages, but I only inked 15 of them (i was using a g-nib dip pen to ink instead of markers last year... which was also way harder). I'll finish the last few pages, bang out a cover, and hopefully sent them to print sometime this week. Here's a test page/character sheet I made to prepare:

I just got back from Bordo Bello a few hours ago! It was pretty fun. I think my board sold for like $45 and my Munny sold for $40, so I guess thats cool. Anyways, I forgot to take my camera so my girlfriends uncle Tyler sent me these pics of my stuff at the show! There was a ton of cool art though, it would've been cool to post some others (like that munny next to mine, made by the incredible married duo that is HARI and DEEPTI). In other news, tomorrow is the start of 24 hour comics day! It's a solid 15-20 minute walk from my house to work, I feel really bad. Also, check out this little write-up my buddy Justin Wood did about me! It's from a paper from Radford University. Radford sounds pretty sweet, it's like coolville or something. I think he mixed up paragraphs, because Time magazine didn't recognize my mini comic 'fresh to death' as one of the 100 Best Novels until 2006, but still, a pretty cool write-up.

Munny Self-Portrait

My comics are sucking lately... Anyways, I painted a Munny yesterday for the Bordo Bello art show in a few weeks! I kinda wanted to push myself to do something a little different (not just doodle cartoony stuff all over it like I would usually do), so I decided to make a self portrait in a painterly style. Mostly because I can't remember the last time I drew myself (zing!). It ended up being way more cartoony than I thought, but I think the colors are cool. Here's some process shots:

FINALLY! I'm back from SPX (mega-post comics tomorrow) and ready to put up my two new books for sale in MY STORE! First up is the longest single story comic I've done, the Xeric-winning FIGHT!

It's an 80 page, perfect bound, graphic novella about the world champion of fighting, FIGHT! Usually my comics are pretty cutesy, so this was my attempt at making a gross comic. There's lots of blood, barfing, milking and cuss words, so it's not for babies. Best of all it's only $5 plus $1 shipping! A steal! Here's the first chapter of the 8 chapter story ON MY FLICKR.

Next up, my second year collection of my daily Spinadoodles strip! It's actually more like a year and two months. It's over 100 pages, with over 400 strips and some pretty sweet extras! I finally made my first shirt test prints this weekend. I hated how they came out, but looking at it today I came to the conclusion that they're not that bad. I really like how splotchy the shirts got when I dyed them, but I'm still not crazy about the design. Here's a sample pic:
